What are YOUR true colors?

In the story Am I Blue?,Vince has many problems because of the fact people think he's gay.Luckily Vince has someone to help him,Melvin his godfather.Vince and Melvin have this magnificent bond between them,Bruce Coville has an outstanding way of showing it.For example,they help each other by giving each other advice on their problems.I feel as if Melvin is the future Vince but he just does not want to tell him.They just seem so similar.Melvin seems more than just a godfather to Vince he seems like a guardian angel for Vince because he always watches out for him.I think Melvin always will.Vince has many things preventing him from getting to the resolution but at the end,Melvin helps him get through all those problems.

       One thing that is preventing Vince from getting to the resolution is that people kept beating him up because they were assuming he was gay.For example,Butch Carrigan decided Vince was intersted in "Jumping his bones". The fact that the author puts "decided" changes everything.It's not like Vince actually wanted to "jump his bones"Butch just thought he did."Jumping his bones" means Vince likes Butch which is not true.Butch thought this because he was judging him by the way Vince looked at him.I know this because Butch says "You little fruit,I'll teach you how to look at me!". Butch is misinterpreting the way Vince is looking at him.Although towards the end you can tell how he really feels.Butch was just afraid like Vince of showing his true colors but instead of taking it calmly like Vince did he decides to deal with it with violence.Butch is also a great example of gay bashing,is a form of bullying but instead its on people who are gay.You know what they say violence is NEVER the answer.

      Another thing that is preventing Vince from getting to the resolution is that he is confused about his emotions.For example,He asks Melvin "me being your first case.Does that mean I'm gay?" I think that he's supposing if he himself can't find the answer to that then maybe some magical wizard can.The truth he has to figure out who he really is not some magical wizard.Another example is when he says"you know I said blushing so swishy" but then right after he says "Don't call me honey!'"I think Vince has a side that's straight and another one that's gay but he doesn't know which side is the real him.Th third example is at the end when he thinks "Maybe when I meet the girl of my dreams or prince charming,whichever.That's a good kind of confused because before he was pressured but now hes like i don't care my decision will come when it comes.

    This story inspired me to see what some people like Vince might be facing in the real world.Like being afraid of being themselves.Scared about what the world might do to prevent things like that from happening.Things like this are actually happening in the real world and their are many people that are actually standing up for their rights for example like protesting.Someday (and I hope it's soon) people are just going to realize that they should just let people be who they wanna be not what society think they should be.
